The Summer Newsletter went out recently so if you have not received it, let us know in-case your address is incorrect on our records.

Big mistake - IWA National Festival illuminated flypast is actually on the Sunday night and not Saturday night as mentioned. The simple solution to this is to meet in the bar both nights! Therefore, those that have arranged to meet on Saturday will still be able to chat to other owners and enjoy the entertainment of the evening.

In this very hot weather take special care over fuel and gas vapour. Remember to check fuel lines and bilges and be particularly careful when filling up with fuel cans - even when filling outboards and generators.

Remember a boat is like a bucket and most vapours tend to drop to the lowest point and gather.

Re-Commissioning

We have had the coldest spell for many a year so extra care will be required when recommissioning the boat. Obviously, water systems, i.e. Sea Cocks, Sea Cock Caps, Core Plugs & Pumps are the first consideration, but fuel and gas systems have also been exposed to the extreme cold, the pipe work and joints have had more of a chill than they are used too!

When the engine re-starts, vibrating and getting up to running temperature, it puts a strain on these units. So before starting, and just after starting, and then again once the engine has stopped, examine all fuel lines along from the tank fittings to the tap, the pipe line along to the engine, the flexible pipe, fuel pump and carburetter (if petrol), or injection pump and injectors (if diesel) for any seepage - if there is seepage do attend to it because even fuel vapour can be dangerous.

It's good to see the boats back where they belong... Afloat! We're all looking forward to a nice spring and summer. This winter has been particularly cold, -18 degrees one night here! Unfortunately a few boats have fallen victim to the cold weather due to their sea cocks freezing and cracking. So it does pay to fully lay-up your boat in the winter, or even better lay-up ashore.

Spring has kicked off with a nice Freeman Article in Motor Boats Monthly (April 2010).
